Iris Kiewiet
Iris Kiewiet is a Dutch-Canadian artist, born and raised in The Netherlands, with her ancestors' lineage coming from Ameland, an island in the North Sea. She has a bachelors from Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Arts Academy Minerva, with a specialization in Illustration.
Her early career took shape in Rotterdam, where she worked as a self-employed illustrator for Dutch national newspapers and book publishers. She had solo exhibits at contemporary galleries and held a teachers position at the Hanze University, before deciding to settle in rural Canada.
She is currently living in Wakefield, Quebec, Canada with her three children. Being close to the Tenàgàdino Zibi/Gatineau River, forests and hills, her work is directly influenced by eco-systems, and speaks to the cycles of life, care, and renewal - echoing the rhythms of birth and being.
Iris participates and hosts workshops, retreats and circles, practicing meditation and art. In the collective, she finds a resonance of mythology and archetype, underlying and interconnecting life. Community art projects, independent book collaborations, studio series of little goddess paintings with lucid colours or earthy drawings with bonfire charcoals and homemade natural inks are a bliss and go to.
