Frida Blackwel

Frida is a registered nurse with a Master's degree in Global Health. She worked as a labour and delivery nurse at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, and has attended hundreds of births, mostly medicated and surgical in the hospital settings.

Already being disillusioned by the medical system for many years, the discrimination and trauma she witnessed in the hospital led her to take a Traditional Birth Attendant training in 2023. The same year she became pregnant for the first time and freebirthed her daughter at home.

She has since completed the Radical Birth Keeper school in 2024, and supports women in out-of-system births. Since has been supporting and educating women about their options in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum and continues to connect women with local services in the Montreal area. She supports women who choose to birth within the medical system and are looking for more information on how the system works to help them navigate their choices.
