Our luxe perineal steam seat has been thoughtfully crafted in true replication of a antique box stool from the 1750’s. Made of premium solid woods and featuring traditional joinery (ways to interlock wood without using nails or screws) that uses a square pegged mortise and tenon technique.
Traditional joinery techniques have been honed over centuries across the globe in different ways to accentuate variations in style and strength. The results offer heirloom quality pieces that will last for generations, aging with grace.

While the cabinet of the seat softly angles out, the legs gently taper in, featuring cove moulding along the top and chamfers on the bottoms.
Seat top features dovetailed cleats to both prevent seat from cupping over time, and stability within the cavity of the box. We’ve inlaid these cleats within the seat so that they stay put in style.
Base features the square pegged mortise and tenon joinery, solid wood floor, and a hole in the floor for those who use heat burners while steaming. This can be omitted - please indicate this preference in notes when ordering.
Complete seat and box are sanded to an exceptionally smooth quality finish, resulting in a silky sensation to the touch. We finish these seats with the beauty of Odie’s Oil to nurture naturally and bring out the radiance of the wood.
Seats are built to order and we offer the choice of birdseye maple, curly maple, cherry, or walnut.
NOTE
Wood species come with variations that are unique to each stool. We select grain and colours that are uncommon, and include both heartwood and sapwood and ensure our colour and grain patterns reflect a beautifully soothing aesthetic. We are more than happy to show you available options at time of order, and can fulfill requests - simply let us know directly through email or in the notes when ordering.

Seat top is 15”x15”, and base measures 13”×13” at the top and 13 5/8” × 13 5/8” towards the bottom. Height is 16 3/4” from floor to top of seat. Approximate weight is 11.5lbs.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Wood moves and requires gentle care long term to enjoy for generations. We guarantee the quality of our work for your lifetime use. Normal wear is expected. Dry with a towel after each steam use, and allow to further air dry prior to putting away or covering. Long term care will require an occasional re-oil application - you’ll see this when the lustre wanes. Each re-oil will strengthen the bond and increase durability between applications (several years). Full care instructions are included and sent with seat.

We hand-craft all aspects of our seats using traditional methods where possible, and work with others who do the same: from the trees that are cut by people we know directly; to the natural milling and air-drying process free of chemicals and dyes; to our careful wood selection and pattern matching; to the hand-turning of the legs on our lathe; to the hand sanding and applied oils and waxes. We do it all and take heartfelt pride in the quality we offer.
