Placenta Cord Burning Bowl Package

$108.00

Prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD). Payment options include Visa/MC/PayPal. Contact us for other arrangements.

Two 7” hand-dipped beeswax candles are included with each bowl.

The placenta cord burning bowl - an invitation to honour the sacred connection of baby and their journey of landing earth-side.

Our placenta cord burning bowls are currently offered in ash (light) or walnut (dark) wood, with dimensions of approximately 6” diameter and 3.5” in height. Four soft wells are grooved into the top rim to secure both candles and placenta cord while the wax drips into the bowl.

As all wood is unique, we focus on integrating the variety of colours, grain patterns and markings to bring out the beauty of the premium woods we work with. You’re welcome to indicate in the notes your preferences or wishes, and we’ll see what we can create for you. We’re happy to share photos of what’s on hand, or source what it is that you’re looking for including alternate wood options.

Like our seats, these bowls are finished to an exceptionally high grit, providing a silky touch that’s unparalleled. This is followed by a single, light rub with Odie’s naturally non-toxic oil and wax blend before it cures and is ready for use. It’s of heirloom quality, perfect for a sacred vessel to mark baby’s transition to this lifetime.

WHAT IS A PLACENTA CORD BURNING BOWL?

A lotus birth is when the placenta remains attached to the baby after birth. Babies will typically gently kick the placenta off in a few days - 7-14 or so. However long we can let that baby's placenta stay intact, the more nurturing and long-term safeguarding is offered to the baby through the exchange of oxygen, blood and stem cells designed for baby.

Where a placenta is not going to remain fully intact for its natural duration, a beautiful, traditional ritual of honouring that connection and the letting go transition is through placenta cord burning. Where possible, it’s best if the cord can remain intact for the first 12-24hrs prior to burning. This ensures baby has received so much more than just the stem cells, and that mother and baby are more prepared for the letting go. The cord will have stopped pulsing, has changed colour and is/has dried out.

The act of burning the cord eliminates the need for sterile tools to clamp and cut the cord, including plastic or other disposable devices/tools. The burning process naturally sterilizes the umbilical cord, eliminating the risk of infection. Simply looping up and tying the remainder of the cord attached to the baby will make it easier over the coming days before the cord stump releases completely.

“The heat is warming and brings energy, Chi to the newborn. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)  believes that the placenta holds Chi. During birth a lot of heat is lost. Cord burning brings heat and draws the vital essence from placenta to the baby, strengthening the baby (Couch, 2015).” GentleMamaHolisticMidwifery.com

HOW TO

Using beeswax candles on each side of the cord to burn it, the family has the opportunity to deepen into the awareness of the babe who’s just arrived earth-side, offerings songs of welcoming, gratitude and blessings as the cord burns and baby/placenta let go. It is a gentle time, a quiet and slow time, usually lasting between 10-15 minutes.

Some families like to use a bowl for each baby, and others like to share the same sacred vessel. If placenta cord burning is new to you, let us know and we’ll include our suggested instructions to ensure a safe and gentle experience.
